Help Preparing Your Own North Carolina Divorce
Some people can file an ordinary absolute divorce themselves and want a lawyer to check that it is the right step and that the papers are right. These services are for that situation. You file and appear yourself; I help with the specific tasks below, and nothing more unless we agree on it in writing.
Free state tools exist. The North Carolina Judicial Branch publishes a free divorce packet and online form tools. What I add is legal judgment about whether this route fits you and whether your papers are right.
The first question: what could you lose?
In North Carolina, an absolute divorce can end the right to ask the court to divide property or to award alimony if those claims have not been filed before the divorce is granted. Every service below starts by checking for this, and for anything else that makes a do-it-yourself divorce a poor fit.
Divorce Readiness Consultation
$150
- Up to 45 minutes, a review of your basic facts and the information you supply.
- Identification of claims that may be unresolved, such as property division, alimony, custody, or support.
- A written summary of your next steps.
Review of Documents You Prepared
$250
- The readiness screening, plus a review of one standard initial divorce packet you prepared.
- Written corrections and a 30-minute discussion.
Divorce Preparation Package
$350
- The readiness screening.
- One standard absolute-divorce document set, with one review-and-correction round.
- Written filing and service instructions and one 45-minute coaching session.
Credit: if you start with the $150 consultation and move up to the $250 review or the $350 package for the same matter within 30 days, the $150 is credited, so your total is $250 or $350.
Not included, and when this does not fit
- Court filing fees, service costs, court appearances, ongoing case monitoring, negotiation with your spouse, and any contested issue.
- If you have unresolved property, alimony, custody, or support questions, a pending case, problems serving your spouse, or safety concerns, this limited service may not fit. I tell you, and you can choose different help.
I do not promise any result or court action. The court decides your case.
